Associate R&D Food Technologist 
Location: Smithfield, VA
Pay: : $52.5k to $77.5k (+ bonus potential + annual merit increases)
Schedule: Onsite Daily

Summary:
Associate Research & Development Technologist supporting product innovation and cost-optimization efforts through formulation and processing improvements, while helping develop new product prototypes that shape future development.

What you get to do:

• Support product development from bench-top concept through commercialization, including new products and line extensions.
• Conduct pilot plant tests and production trials to build prototypes and refine formulations for improved product quality.
• Create and adjust formulations using an online database system while keeping project files, specifications, and product data accurate.
• Collaborate cross-functionally with Business, Marketing, Sales, Manufacturing, and Engineering, providing clear updates on project progress.
• Build your product development skills and knowledge of U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) and Food and Drug Administration (FDA) regulations.

What you need to succeed:

• Bachelor’s degree in Food Science or related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience (students graduating by the end of the current semester will be considered)
• Strong knowledge of meat and non-meat ingredient functionality, with the ability to work on pilot plant equipment with minimal supervision
• Proficiency with online work systems and product development software
• Exceptional communication, organization, and multitasking skills
• Ability to travel 10–25%
