IMMEDIATE TEMP HVACTechnician
IMMEDIATE HVAC Product Development Technician II needed for our client in the HVAC manufacturing space, specializing in residential and commercial heating and cooling products. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced HVAC Technician who is ready to step away from daily field service, crawling through attics, working outdoors, and unpredictable seasonal hours and transition into a consistent, first-shift laboratory environment.
This position is expected to run through the end of the year or longer, depending on start date and business needs, with the potential opportunity to become a permanent employee based on performance and future openings.
The HVAC Product Development Technician II will work inside our client's HVAC testing and product development laboratory, setting up and performing tests on residential and commercial HVAC equipment. This individual will use their previous hands-on HVAC experience to ensure new and existing products operate properly, meet engineering and energy requirements, and perform safely.
Responsibilities
- Set up, adjust, and change HVAC test units and equipment to perform testing according to engineering specifications and established testing procedures.
- Operate, maintain, and repair residential and commercial HVAC test chambers, equipment, instrumentation, and related systems.
- Rebuild and modify HVAC test units, including replacing compressors, coils, fan motors, and related components.
- Perform brazing, refrigerant recovery, evacuation, and charging as required.
- Troubleshoot HVAC equipment and identify mechanical, electrical, and refrigeration-related issues.
- Read and interpret schematics, engineering drawings, technical reports, safety procedures, and operating/maintenance instructions.
- Collect, analyze, interpret, and document data gathered during HVAC product testing.
- Document test conditions, results, issues, and key observations and communicate findings to project leaders.
- Prepare clear written documentation and reports summarizing testing progress, results, and conclusions.
- Maintain laboratory organization, cleanliness, equipment, and safety standards.
- Work closely with senior technicians, engineering teams, shift leaders, and R&D product development teams.
- Maintain accurate electronic test records, project documentation, and communications.
- Perform end-of-shift equipment and work-area checks and provide clear documentation for ongoing testing.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- 2+ years of hands-on HVAC experience required, including HVAC service, installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, or HVAC/gas-heat laboratory testing.
- Associate's degree, vocational/technical certificate, trade school diploma, or equivalent experience.
- EPA Universal Certification required.
- Hands-on experience working with refrigeration systems, including replacing compressors, coils, motors, and related components.
- Experience with brazing, refrigerant recovery, evacuation, and charging.
- Ability to troubleshoot basic mechanical, refrigeration, and electrical issues.
- Ability to read and interpret HVAC schematics, technical drawings, operating instructions, and technical documentation.
- Experience using hand tools, including brazing and welding-related tools.
- Basic understanding of electrical wiring, equipment assembly, system maintenance, and repair.
- Comfortable using computer systems for data collection, test documentation, electronic communications, and project records.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with excellent attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a laboratory and engineering team.
- Ability to obtain a forklift license within six months of hire.
Preferred Experience
- Commercial HVAC service or installation experience.
- Residential and commercial HVAC product knowledge.
- Previous HVAC testing or laboratory experience.
- Strong mechanical troubleshooting skills.
- Understanding of refrigeration systems and basic thermodynamic principles.
