Foreman – Heavy Civil Construction

Pay: $31–$33 per hour
Location: Columbia, SC (Travel to active project sites required)

A well-established heavy civil contractor is seeking an experienced Foreman to lead field crews on grading and site development projects throughout the Southeast. This is an excellent opportunity for a hands-on leader who enjoys mentoring crews, operating equipment when needed, and ensuring projects are completed safely, efficiently, and on schedule.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and supervise field crews while promoting a strong safety culture.

• Coordinate daily construction activities to meet production, quality, and scheduling goals.

• Read and interpret construction plans, specifications, and project layouts.

• Set up and utilize GPS equipment for field operations.

• Conduct Job Safety Analyses (JSAs), toolbox talks, and daily safety meetings.

• Operate heavy equipment when needed while following OSHA and MSHA regulations.

• Coordinate with project management and engineering teams to execute project plans.

• Monitor jobsite conditions, identify production challenges, and implement solutions.

• Maintain erosion control measures and ensure site compliance.

• Complete daily reports, fuel logs, equipment inspections, and production documentation.

• Perform routine equipment inspections, preventative maintenance, and minor repairs.

• Maintain company vehicle, tools, and equipment in safe working condition.

• Keep jobsites organized, clean, and prepared for changing weather conditions.

Qualifications

• Experience as a Foreman in heavy civil, grading, earthwork, or site development.

• Ability to lead crews and maintain productivity in a fast-paced construction environment.

• Experience operating heavy equipment including dozers, excavators, loaders, graders, and compactors.

• Ability to read construction plans and perform field layout.

• Knowledge of OSHA and MSHA safety regulations.

• Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.

• Excellent organizational and time management abilities.

Requirements

• Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.

• Ability to pass pre-employment and random drug/alcohol screenings.

• Ability to lift at least 40 pounds.

• Willingness to travel to project sites and work outdoors in all weather conditions.
